Time passes with a lot of events and changes. Con Dao island has today become popular for both domestic and western tourists. Con Dao is not only a historic destination but is also famous for leisure travel, beach breaks with sandy white beach, an untouched national park and friendly local people which all make Con Dao island a must-see place in the south of Vietnam. Tour starts and ends in Ho Chi Minh city.
The Con Dao Islands (also known as Poulo Condore) are an archipelago of 15 islands situated in the South China Sea, around 250 kilometres, or a 45-minute flight, from Ho Chi Minh City.
The island is famed for its grizzly past: due its remoteness, the French used the main island of Con Son (the largest island in the group) to keep anti-colonial protestors prisoner. The South Vietnamese continued the tradition, sending political dissenters and activists to the 11 prisons which were also used in the American War. One third of the current 6,000 population are Vietnamese soldiers based in barracks dotted around the island.
Con Son is largely mountainous and covered in forest, with ample opportunity for hiking through the jungle and looking for wildlife. The island is also home to a coastline of steep, rocky hills and long sweeping coves, boasting some excellent spots for swimming and snorkeling.
The best source of information is the National Park Headquarters, located about five minutes' drive from Con Son town on Vo Thi Sau Rd. From here you can organize trips to other islands in the archipelago, hire a guide for trekking (required) and get permits to enter certain parts of the forest. Three tourist hotels are available on Con Son, all on Ton Duc Thang Rd which follows the beach and the harbor around Con Son town:

Day 1: HCMC – Con Dao (L/D)
AM: Pick up and transfer to Tan San Nhat airport for boarding flight VN 421 to Con Dao (9.20 - 10:20am). Car transfer to hotel. Check in and relax. Lunch at the hotel.
PM: Free time for swimming, sunbathing and relaxing in the cool island breezes. In the evening, adjourn to a restaurant to enjoy a sumptuous outdoor dinner served under the stars. Overnight at your chosen resort on Con Dao island.
Day 2: Con Dao (B/L/D)
After breakfast, take a boat ride to Bay Canh islet, where you can swim and look for sea-turtle eggs on the lovely beaches. Then enjoy a trek through the magical, time-forgotten mangrove forests characteristic of Southern Vietnam, and discover beautiful coral reefs by snorkeling at low tide. You can also take a fantastic two-hour walk to a functioning French-built lighthouse. Return to Con Dao in the late afternoon for dinner and relaxation. Overnight at your chosen resort on Con Dao island.
Day 3: Con Dao (B/L/D)
AM: Go swimming or explore the deserted roads hidden beneath the shady vaults of old trees. Visit the notorious Tiger Cages, the former prison built by French colonialists, and Hang Duong Cemetery. Lunch at your hotel. Leisure time in the afternoon. Overnight at your chosen resort on Con Dao island.
Day 4: Con Dao – Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Transfer to airport for boarding flight VN 422 to HCMC (11am - 12 noon). End of our services.
